Things to do in the area

There is much to do in the local area with so many pretty villages, historic houses, beautiful gardens, award winning sandy and shingle beaches plus shopping, pubs and restaurants.

Stroll around Rye Harbour, take a boat trip along River Rother or journey back in time on the nostalgic Kent & Sussex Steam Railway.

The small Kentish town of Tenterden with it’s wide tree lined high street and fantastic selection of independent shops, pubs and restaurants is a 10 minute drive. The fabulous Camber Sands with its award winning sand dune backed beach is a 15 minute drive and the seaside towns of Hastings, Eastbourne and Bexhill-on-Sea are easily accessible.

Finally, return back to Rother Valley Park and round off your evening with a campfire on your pitch, using one of our firepits.

Tenterden’s Steam Railway

With Northiam Station on the door step of the park, you can experience a journey back in time on one of the many steam trains along this Kent and East Sussex Railway.  Book a meal to be enjoyed on board whilst you take in the stunning scenery that runs alongside.

Stop at one of the many stations along the way to explore the local towns or museums or take afternoon tea at Northiam Station, relaxing watching the trains go by.

Leeds Castle

You’ll never forget your first sight of magnificent Leeds Castle in Kent, surrounded by its picturesque moat as it has done for almost 900 years.

Leeds Castle is set in 500 acres of beautiful parkland and formal gardens, with an abundance of wildlife, daily activities, flying falconry displays a maze plus exhibitions and a museum.  Leeds Castle has something to keep everyone entertained.

Hastings

Hastings is most famous for the historic Battle of Hastings in 1066 between William the Conqueror and King Harold.

Today this cosmopolitan town boasts a full calendar throughout the year, with something to see and do for all ages, budget and interests.

Explore the shingle beach seafront and pier or visit the Hastings Fishermen’s and Shipwreck Museum and learn all about its maritime history.

Day out at historic Hever Castle

You can spend hours admiring the lovely interiors and historic elements of Hever Castle as well as the 250 acres of stunning grounds and gardens this Castle boasts.

Children can enjoy the playground, whilst all ages can enjoy the challenge of finding their way through a choice of 3 different mazes. Find the quaint collection of miniature model houses or have fun om the beautiful boating lake.

Hever Castle has many attractions throughout the year to enjoy as well as a modest 27 hole golf course.

Visit the seaside

England is home to some of the most beautiful and unique coastlines in the world.  There’s plenty of opportunity for a day out with a picnic, a paddle or to fly a kite.

At low tide it can be over a mile to the water’s edge, making it a wonderful open space to collect shells, explore rock pools or build sandcastles.

The British seaside is the best. Enjoy the scent of the vinegar on the fish and chips and the sand between your toes.

Picturesque Rye

Once known for its smuggling and highway men, Rye now has a charm all of its own. It’s lovely to wander the picturesque cobbled steep lanes amidst beautifully preserved Medieval, Tudor and Georgian buildings and visit the many unique shops, cafes and restaurants.

There are miles of footpaths for you to explore in Rye, with a beautiful coastal nature reserve complete with several birdwatching hides. A large variety of birds, plants and other animals can be seen all year round here, wandering in the grazing marsh and reed beds.

Medieval castles, beautiful towns and gorgeous beaches… it’s all just on our doorstep!
